Learn to Skate and Mite Development Registration is Open
Welcome to Winthrop Youth Hockey
At Winthrop Youth Hockey (WYH), our mission is to provide a fun, safe, and supportive environment where kids can develop their skating and hockey skills, build confidence, and grow as teammates both on and off the ice.
This season, we’ve updated our Development Programs to give skaters a clearer path as they grow in the game. What used to be Learn to Skate “A” and “B” is now split into two programs:
Learn to Skate
Perfect for beginners! Skaters learn balance, stride, stopping, and turning while building confidence on the ice.
Intro to Hockey
For players ready to skate independently with a stick. This program introduces puck handling, passing, shooting, and game awareness in a fun, supportive setting.
Mite Development League (MDL)
The next step toward travel hockey. Players develop skills through station-based drills and small-area games, while learning teamwork and sportsmanship.
Registration is Now Open!
Join the Vikings family this season and watch your player grow in skills, confidence, and love for the game.
USA Hockey Congress Approves Requirement For Neck Guards
Starting August 1, 2024, USA Hockey has mandated the use of neck guards for all players in youth, girls, and junior age classifications during games and practices. To ensure a comprehensive approach to safety, USA Hockey also recommends the use of cut-resistant socks, sleeves, or undergarments.
WYH prioritizes the well-being of our players, and we fully support these changes. We invite you to learn more about this significant ruling and its implications by visiting the official USA Hockey website here.
